I remember in the 1980’s when the movie Heathers was released starring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty. With the release of the musical based on the Daniel Waters’ film I will be able to enjoy the story in another form.
After successful seasons in Sydney and Brisbane. Heathers is coming to the Arts Centre Melbourne’s Playhouse from 11 to 22 May.
Heathers takes place at Westerberg High, ruled by shoulder-padded, scrunchie wearing (you got to love the 1980’s) three Heathers. They are the hottest and cruelest girls at school. Misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects their regime for a new boyfriend JD who plans to put the three Heathers in their place.
The off Broadway play written by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy. This production is directed by entertainer Trevor Ashley. It features Hilary Cole, Lucy Maunder, Libby Asciak, Rebecca Hetherington, Stephen Madsen, Lauren McKenna, Vincent Hooper, Jakob Ambrose, Sage Douglas, Stephen McDowell and Mitchell Hicks.
If you loved the 1980’s when the fashion involved shoulder pads, big hair and fluorescent colours, weren’t in the popular group or wanted to take revenge on the cool kids this show is for you.
