The Production Company 2016 Season

Each year The Production Company‘s stages a series of three musicals. This years season includes Funny Girl, Curtains and Dusty.

Funny Girl stars Caroline O’Connor in the role of Broadway comedienne Fanny Brice. The story is told in flashback follows her life from stage-struck teen to stardom in the Ziegfeld Follies to her relationship with Nick Arnstein.

Ballarat born tenor David Hobson makes his debut for The Production Company in the role of Nick. Also, starring in Funny Girl will be theatre legend Nancye Hayes AM.

Having a season of ten performances from 23 to 31 July at Art Centre Melbourne‘s State Theatre. It features the hits Don’t Rain On My Parade, People and I’m The Greatest.

Curtains is the second production and is making its Australian premiere from 20 to 28 August for 10 performances only at the State Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne.

Set in 1959 in Boston, its opening night of Robbin’ Hood of the Old West when the untalented leading lady is murdered onstage at curtain call. Everyone is a suspect. Local detective and passionate amateur theatrical lover Lieutenant Frank Ciotti unravels the mystery, fixes the show and falls in love with Niki Harris.

Starring in Curtains will be Simon Gleeson, Alinta Chidzey, Alex Rathgerber, Lucy Maunder, Roger Hodgman and Melissa Langton.

Dusty will be the third show staged in 2016. Its 10 years since the premiere, a season will be performed for 17 shows at the Playhouse Theatre at the Art Centre Melbourne from 12 to 27 November.

Created by Australian writers John-Michael Howson, David Mitchell and Melvyn Morrow. Amy Lepahmer, Todd McKenney and will star in Dusty.

Based on the story of Londoner Mary O’Brien who transformed herself into pop icon Dusty Springfield who took the world by storm in the 1960’s.

Some of the hit songs included in the Dusty will include I Only Wanna Be With You, Wishin’ and Hopin’, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me, Son of a Preacher Man and I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself.

The 2016 season of The Production Company features three fantastic musicals with a line-up of great stars.
