Honorable Mentions

The Royal South Street Society is an well-known yearly event which has been held in Ballarat since 1891.

Honorable Mentions is a locally written production honoring ‘The Comps’ as the Royal South Street Competitions are affectionately known.


Ballarat National Theatre pays tribute to 125 years of the Royal South Street in locally written production Honorable Mentions.

Written and directed by Mary-Rose McLaren and Peter Nethercote who’ve been involved in the theatre scene for many years.  They chosen their favourite moments from more than 100 pages of information provided by Les Holloway as well from books, personal experiences and some imagination to capture the feel of this competition.

Celebrate the wild ride through the past and into the future, as its uncover the quirky, the inspiring and the tragic which underlie ‘The Comps’.

The cast includes Janette Baxter, Joe Baxter, Trevor Day, John Daykin, Ruby DeVoogel, Angus Drain, Sarah Foers, Lesley Hal, Tim, Harris, Katrina Hill, Graham Maxwell, Ann Murison, Linda Ogier, Patrick Osborn, Ben Plazzer, Liana Skewes and Lucy Walters.

It’s being staged at the Courthouse Theatre in Ballarat until 9 April, 2016.
