Melbourne is known to be the fashion capital of Australia. City of Glen Eira are holding an exhibition to celebrate fashion in Melbourne from the 1950’s.
“Celebrating Style – 1950’s Fashion in Melbourne” showcases 1950’s Australian vintage women’s fashion and couture, capturing the style and elegance and international influences during this decade.
You’ll be able to view garments from Melbourne fashion houses and labels including Raoul Couture, Le Louvre, Georges, MACC, Lucas, Hartnell of Melbourne. Also on display will be photographs from Athol Shmith and Bruno Benini.
Diana Masters, a 1950’s fashion model will discuss her career as a mannequin and fashion artist on 24 June.
On 1 July, Nicole Jenkins from Circa Vintage who share her stories of the’50s frocks on display as she’s provided items from her private collection.
Both floor talks are free but bookings are essential.
The exhibition is part of the Glen Eira Storytelling Festival. Celebrating Style – 1950’s Fashion in Melbourne will be on display until 10 July.
