Lost In Yonkers

Ballarat National Theatre is presenting their second show for the 2016 season with Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers.

Teenage brothers Jay and Arty are left to fend for themselves by their father following the death of their mother.  They find themselves in a dysfunctional household with their German refugee grandmother, small time gangster uncle who’s hiding from the mob and their childlike aunt.

Set during World War II in the summer of 1942 in Yonkers, New York.  The story takes place in the Kurnitz family’s cramped flat over their candy store.

This drama focuses on the strain that can impact individuals in circumstances and how relationships are affected in the family unit. The stresses are relieved by the two teenage brothers observations that only adolescents can provide.

Lost in Yonkers is directed by Hedley Thomson. Starring Jeanette Baxter,  Kelly Jane Harrison,  Zach McLellan, Linda Ogier, Ben Plaza, Lee Taylor and James Wait.

It will be staged at the Courthouse Theatre in Ballarat from 2 to 9 July, 2016.
