Fawlty Towers

After the World Premiere of Fawlty Towers Live in Sydney.  It will be performed at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre for a limited season of four weeks from 21 September.

Starring Ana Maria Belo, Paul Betram, Blazey Best, Syd Brisbane, Paul Denny, Stephen Hall, Aimee Horne, Andrew Johnston, Sarah Jane Kelly, Deborah Kennedy, Anna Lee, John Sherman, Emily Thomas, John Voce and David John Watton. The cast were hand-picked by creator and co-writer John Cleese.

Based on the BBC television series written by Cleese and Connie Booth.  The script is an extended narrative based on three of Cleese’s favourite episodes – “Communication Problems“, “The Hotel Inspectors” and “The Germans“.

Basil is the manager and properietor of Fawlty Towers, a Torquay hotel. After a tip off that hotel inspectors may be visiting Basil attempts to ingratiate himself with guests to critque the establishment.  The situation is plagued by a party of Germans, the guest from hell Mrs Richards whose complaints prevent Baseil from hiding a gambling win from his wife Sybil.  They run the hotel together with Polly and Manuel.

Fawlty Towers Live is presented by Michael Coppel and Phillip McIntyre with Louise Withers and directed by C Jay Ranger.

After the Melbourne season, it will be performed in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and New Zealand.
