Having visited the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) studio during Vince Fantauzzo was in residence for his 30/30 Project. He painted a different portrait for 30 days. Sadly, I missed the exhibition when he completed the finished works.
I found out the collection was on display at the Benalla Art Gallery. The subjects of the 30/30 Project are Australians who come from a range of areas from the arts, science, politics, sport and philanthropy.
Some of the portraits included in the 30/30 Project includes of actor Asher Keddie who also happens to be Fantazzo’s wife, Hon Bob Hawke AC GCL, film director Baz Luhrmann, AFL legend Ron Barassi, AFL footballer Heritier Lumumba (Harry O’Brien), the Edgerton brothers actor Joel and director/stuntman Nash, David Walsh AO founder of Museum of Old and New Art (MONA).
It’s interesting to know that the works came from Fantauzzo’s curiosity about who we are as Australians. He would go and ask a subject then paint them and ask them who inspired them and then he was passed onto someone else.
The 30/30 Project by Vincent Fantauzzo is on display until 25 April.
